About the Role
Our client, a leading civil engineering and water infrastructure contractor, is seeking a SHEQ Advisor to support the delivery of their repair and maintenance (R&M) frameworks across the west of Ireland.
Working across a live portfolio of water and wastewater treatment sites, pumping stations and associated civil and MEICA works, you will take ownership of safety, health, environmental and quality performance on the ground — carrying out site inspections and audits, supporting site teams with practical advice, and driving a consistent standard across a geographically spread framework.
This role would suit a SHEQ or EHS professional with 3+ years' experience in civil engineering, utilities or a related contracting environment who is comfortable working autonomously across multiple active sites.
Health & Safety
- Carry out regular site inspections, audits and safety observations across framework sites
- Support site teams in the preparation and review of risk assessments and method statements
- Monitor compliance with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations and company procedures
- Investigate incidents, near misses and non-conformances, and track corrective actions to close-out
- Support the delivery of toolbox talks, site inductions and safety briefings
- Promote a positive safety culture and challenge unsafe behaviours constructively
Environmental
- Monitor environmental compliance across sites, including waste, water discharge, spill prevention and noise
- Support the implementation and upkeep of the environmental management system
- Assist with environmental risk assessments and site-specific environmental plans
- Report on environmental performance and support carbon and sustainability initiatives
Quality
- Carry out quality inspections and support close-out of quality documentation
- Assist in maintaining the integrated management system across ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001
- Support internal and external audits, including client and certification body audits
- Track non-conformances and drive continuous improvement across the framework
Reporting & Training
- Prepare SHEQ reports and performance statistics for project and senior management
- Maintain accurate records, registers and training matrices
- Identify training needs and support delivery of SHEQ training to site personnel
- Liaise with clients, subcontractors and regulatory bodies on SHEQ matters
Essential Requirements
- Qualification in Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science or a related discipline
- Minimum 3 years' SHEQ or EHS experience within civil engineering, utilities, construction or a related contracting environment
- Working knowledge of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations

- Full clean driving licence
Desirable Experience
- Water and wastewater treatment or utilities framework experience

- NEBOSH Diploma or Certificate, or equivalent
- Membership of IOSH or a comparable professional body
- Experience supporting PSCS duties under the Construction Regulations
- Familiarity with Uisce Éireann standards and specifications
- Experience on repair, maintenance or asset renewal programmes rather than new build alone
Personal Attributes
- Practical and pragmatic, with the credibility to earn the trust of site teams
- Self-motivated and comfortable managing your own schedule across a wide geography
- Strong attention to detail and accurate record keeping
- Collaborative approach — able to advise and coach rather than police
- Resilient and confident challenging unsafe practice at any level
